South Carolina Coroners Association Celebrates Coroner of the Year, Kandy C. Kelley
Columbia SC, 1/9/2024 – The South Carolina House of Representatives proudly acknowledges
and commends Kandy C. Kelley, a distinguished coroner in the Pickens County Coroner's
Office, for being named the 2023 South Carolina Coroners Association's Coroner of the Year.
Ms. Kelley's journey is marked by dedication, expertise, and unwavering commitment to the
field of death investigation in South Carolina. Born in Hanover, New Hampshire, she later
made South Carolina her home, graduating from Easley Senior High School and establishing
her family with husband J. B. Kelley, currently a Lieutenant in the Criminal Investigations
Division of the Pickens County Sheriff's Office.
Her professional journey showcases a diverse skill set, including a degree as a surgical
technologist from Greenville Technical College and certification as a medical assistant. Ms.
Kelley's contributions extend beyond the medical field, having worked in oral surgery, ENT,
urology, and internal medicine.
Ms. Kelley's pivotal role in the Pickens County Coroner's Office began on January 3, 2001, as
the chief deputy coroner. Over the years, she demonstrated a profound commitment to
advancing her knowledge, attending Medicolegal Training for Death Investigators at the
University of Saint Louis in 2000 and receiving additional training in forensic entomology.
The South Carolina House of Representatives takes pride in recognizing Kandy C. Kelley for
her outstanding achievements. Her exemplary work has not only elevated the reputation of
the Pickens County Coroner's Office but has also brought honor to her community.
Therefore, the House of Representatives resolves to formally honor and congratulate Kandy
C. Kelley for being named the 2023 South Carolina Coroners Association's Coroner of the
Year. A copy of this resolution will be presented to Ms. Kelley in recognition of her exceptional
contributions to the field of death investigation.
