Call for Nominations: 2025 SCCA Awards – Recognizing Excellence in Coroner Services

The South Carolina Coroners Association (SCCA) is now accepting nominations for the 2025 SCCA Awards, which will be presented at the annual conference. These prestigious awards recognize outstanding coroners, deputy coroners, and individuals who have significantly contributed to the field of death investigation and the advancement of the SCCA.


SCCA encourages members and stakeholders to submit nominations for deserving candidates who have demonstrated exceptional dedication, leadership, and service in their roles.


Award Categories:

Coroner of the Year – Honors a coroner who has gone above and beyond in serving their county, implementing improvements, or advancing public education.

Deputy Coroner of the Year – Recognizes outstanding deputy coroners in four regions: Upstate, Midlands, Pee Dee, and Lowcountry.

Sue Townsend Award – Given to a coroner or deputy who has shown extraordinary commitment to the advancement of SCCA and the profession.

Rising Star Award – Celebrates new professionals (less than five years of experience) who are making a significant impact in their office.

SCCA Champion of the Year – Acknowledges individuals, including non-members, who have supported and advocated for the SCCA and its mission.

SCCA Pioneer Award – Honors those who have shown long-term dedication and leadership in promoting the SCCA and its initiatives.


SCCA members and the broader community are urged to submit nominations by May 1, 2025, via email to info@southcarolinacoroners.org. Each nomination should include detailed examples of the nominee’s contributions and achievements.
